I write to you that we both might be faithful to the Lord and his Scriptures. Let us look at the Word of God together. Let us confess to our Lord where we have not been faithful in living according to what the Bible has said we ought. Review with me those particular verses as examples to show that people do ignore God’s expectations in our daily life.
1 Thessalonians 4: 9 – be kind one to another. In my over fifty years of ministry, I have yet to find those that live according to the Scripture. As I have counseled them, they returned to the next session to admit they could not faithfully be kind to each other. These simple words are hard to apply to daily life.
Philippians 2:3,4 – teaches that we should put others over ourselves. There are many excuses for being more concerned for self than the situation or needs of a brother. This includes all areas of life such as spiritual and material.
Philippians 4:5 – here is advice that we should be moderate in all things, but what does that mean? In our society we practice access. We eat too much. We talk too much with the wrong attitude. Even the way we dress is no doubt displeasing to God. When I visited a certain church, a woman walked in with short shorts leaving nothing to be imagined.
Galatians 5:22-26 – is an exclamation of those who display a tight relationship with the Holy Spirit. According to these verses, that relationship shows forth, blossoms in particular ways such as helpfulness and meekness. Would it not be wise to question how we live in the attitudes we display if they are consistent or not with these verses? For instance, one of the Beatitudes that Jesus gave us says blessed are the peacemakers. Then, let us ask ourselves if we are peacemakers or troublemakers.
Colossians 3:22,23 – I was grumbling to myself one day at work. Then at lunchtime the Lord showed me these words. We might think that we work for a certain supervisor or business owner. The fact is, as believers, we work for the Lord. Our work is to honor Christ regardless of our situation where we are employed.
Colossians 2:8 – we congratulate ourselves on how smart we are. We seek out self-help books instead of the Bible. We think certain people are wise and we should take their advice on how to live and interact with others. The fact is, many Christians are being spoiled through philosophy according to the tradition of man not God.
Galatians 6:7-10 – leaves us in a precarious situation. No doubt, this is one of the most ignored Scriptures of the Bible. We should be careful how we live for there are consequences to how we live, how we treat others, and what we put forth as our priority. This is not a negotiable Scripture. This declares the natural consequences that we have brought on ourselves whether good or bad.
Titus 1;16; 3;8 – these words push us into a corner. In many other verses, Jesus questions if professing Christians are truly born again and live according to that lifestyle. It is unfortunate that so many people declare themselves to be Christians, but they are not as confirmed by their actions. This is a call to such people to examine themselves whether they truly have the Holy Spirit working in them. Jesus condemned the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Surely, he would condemn those who have a false profession of the Christian life.
