Prescription for a better July 4

If we are to observe Independence Day for what it was intended, we must prescribe to ourselves a better plan for the future. Picnics and games are fine except they should not overshadow the events of 1776. Here are suggestions for what we should do in honor of this federal holiday.

  1. Whether we are simply citizens going about our day or whether we have responsibilities such as politicians, every one of us should be concerned about the well-being of our nation spiritually and politically as an influence around the world.
  2.  When we vote, it should be about the issues, not the person or the party. Our ballot box should be a reflection that we care about the future.
  3. Too many people are ignorant or uninformed about the past. It is the responsibility of each person to be educated about the history of this nation.
  4. We must honor the sacrifice of those who went before and that fought for our freedom. This cannot simply be tipping off the hat. Think about the suffering and discomfort that our heroes experienced for people like you and me that they never knew.
  5. There was a time in which America practiced the draft. As a result of making, it a voluntary military instead, the general population and even those in Congress have no concept for the need of our military strength. We should reinstate the draft!
  6. As a part of us all being better educated about our nation, we should have an expanded knowledge and realization of the consequences that would come from socialism, communism and the contrast of democracy. A recent poll said that young people think that socialism would be a better form of government for America. This is a tragedy in their education as well as their thinking!
  7. Somehow people have been brainwashed thinking that the government owes them something. In a recent presidential election, there was an individual on television who declared she would vote for this particular candidate because he would make sure she would get a cell phone for free. We must stop looking at the government as our Savior and provider.
  8. The new generation has stopped honoring our country as the best in the world with privilege and opportunity, blessings, and the right for private ownership. The demise of an old fashion education for children is having a drastic affect.

The question asked us is if we really care about the well-being of our country considering the international pressures complementing our faulty and incompetent federal leadership. We must assign ourselves individual responsibilities in coming elections and local board meetings that we will return, and demand our schools to concentrate on reading, writing, and arithmetic instead of evil indoctrination. We cannot expect God’s blessing if we continue down the road that we have created for ourselves.
