I will admit that one of my pet peeves are commercials that tell people they deserve their product. They say such things as: you deserve prettier skin, you deserve thicker hair, you deserve this particular car, you deserve this product that will make you lose weight, you deserve to have a greener lawn, you deserve to have a certain house to live in. I could go on and on.
The question is what makes a person deserve anything? What is there about people that make them eligible so that they deserve something? Why is it that they are so deserving? And who says that they are deserving? Who makes the decision that a certain person deserves something?
If you turn to the Bible, you will see that none of us deserve good things. It says, “We are lost and undone without God and his son.”
There are answers to the questions raised in the second paragraph. If we have not received Christ as their Savior, we deserve eternal hell. Because God loves us all, we can be eligible to gain an eternal heaven. It is only what Christ did on the cross that makes us have any form of deserving something that God will provided. The devil will tell us in temptations that we deserve to have the benefits of falling to the temptation. So, we are the ones who make the decision if we deserve anything in regard to eternity. We determine what we deserve and will experience throughout eternity.
No matter how much money you have or how prestigious you are, you don’t deserve anything because of your success or good looks (or lack thereof). Now here’s the punchline! Through Jesus Christ we deserve as his heir, joy and peace, those golden streets in heaven, a mansion that Jesus has prepared for all the believers. Avoid taking in the commercials for us deserving anything. Accept the word of God that says we do deserve something.
