There are many promises in the Bible that God makes for our guidance and well-being. It is his intention that we are guided by his Spirit. Within the great mass of scriptures are certain verses that offer significant insight into our highest growth. These verses tell us how to have a life of joy and power even in the midst of the storm. However, some of these Bible verses are conditional on what we do. Here are some examples:
Psalm 1: 1-2 tells us that a person is blessed by having a delight in the law of God (obedience). The indication of this delight is that the believer walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Notice that the person who has a right attitude means he will not walk, stand, or sit in such a way that others do without a right relationship with God. The person who is not blessed progressively diminishes his spiritual life from walking to standing to sitting. In such a case a person’s life becomes increasingly worse.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us about the spiritual life that is fantastic in serving God. Such a person maintains a renewed strength, mounts into the air like an eagle, runs and is not weary, walks and does not faint. To be able to have this godly life, the believer must wait on the Lord. When we ask God for a particular favor, the most difficult part is to wait for his response without being impetuous or jumping ahead before God provides his answer. Notice that the eagle flies high above the earth. We, like the eagle, would be living above negative circumstances. We have a spiritual strength that helps us persevere beyond what life throws at us.
Romans 8: 28 is often misquoted even by unbelievers. They say, “all things work together for good.” This is only true to those who are living a life with a calling for God’s purpose. We cannot expect everything to turn around in the way that we want, especially under adverse conditions. Our spiritual journey must be within the confines of God’s purpose. It is to live according to what God expects of us.
These are examples of how to be blessed because of being right with God, how to serve him and follow the direction of his Spirit. At any point in time our lives may be troubled. Even so, in serving God we can have his blessing and his inspiration and his promise for the result to be in our favor as he is glorified.
