Is God Proud of You?

In the case of Job, he already was a man of maturity, uprightness, honor, one who respected God, and shunned evil. This was before the law of Moses. This was the time in which each man decided for himself what kind of character he would have. Because Job had such high integrity, God was proud of him.

God already knew that he could trust Job no matter what predicament he experienced. His daily life and devotion to God demonstrated the high quality of the person that he was. Job was the kind of person who put God first in his family life and business affairs. He prayed intercessory prayers for his children often.

If we are to be the kind of Christian that God would be proud of us, we must be the kind of person that Job was. God must be able to look at us as trustworthy. But what does that look like for a kind of Christian that God would be proud of? What are the goals we should set for ourselves within our personal lives?

In Mark 14 is a record of a woman who anointed Christ with very precious oil. There were those at the dinner that objected, but Jesus said, “She has done what she could.” This is the beginning of the answer for our God to smile on us. In our devotion to him, it must be evidenced that we are doing all we can for him.

In James 1 we are instructed to alter our attitude about temptations we experience. We are not to see temptations as something that we just struggle against. We must know that by being devoted to the Lord, temptations have value. We are admonished to have joy when facing inducements to sin because when we resist them, we gain a special kind of patience and wisdom. Also, by resisting temptations, God promises us a reward. This means that we are doers of the Word and not hearers only.

In 1 Peter 2 God calls us a spiritual house, a holy priesthood. We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that we should show forth the praises of him with called us out of darkness into his marvelous light. Simply put, if we want God to be proud of us, we must see ourselves differently. We are not just the average human. We are a unique creation of God spiritually. Then, we must behave and believe like that special person God wants to think of us.

We are called strangers and pilgrims. We are told that the world will think evil of us, but eventually they will be glorifying God. In addition, we are told to, “Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king (rulers).” For God to be proud of us, our duty is to follow in his steps.
