The word of the day is Intervention

A two-year-old baby named Helen Keller was afflicted by a disease causing her to lose her sight and hearing. For five years she grew up in that state, becoming wild and unruly. By all accounts, there was no hope for her. Then a woman named Ann Sullivan intervened. She used the sense of touch to make contact with the young girl. Within three years Helen was able to read and write braille. When she was sixteen, she could speak well enough to go to school and later college. This blind and deaf woman graduated cum laude from Radcliffe College in 1904. She became a Christian and wrote three hymns per week. One of the most famous is, ā€œBlessed Assurance.ā€ She was a world traveler and lecturer and writer. Several books were written about her plus movies were made about her life. Lyndon Johnson awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

This is much more can be said about the life of Helen Keller, but none of these things were possible unless Anne Sullivan intervened in her life. There are people around us just waiting for someone to intervene in their lives. They may need to be led to Christ. They may need encouragement and support. They may simply need a kind word or smile. All those people are waiting, but will we intervene on their behalf?

Take the idea of intervention a step further. Our nation and our world are in turmoil. Never before has America been in such a terrible situation. This is why we must pray diligently and sincerely for God to intervene. We must ask him to intervene for our nation and our world. We must ask him to intervene for those in our family and strangers. We must be sincere and dedicated in our prayers. In this regard, we all are in a place that only God can help.

Be an Ann Sullivan to someone. Be a prayer warrior asking for God’s intervention. This is a day and time in which we must be serious. Our individual lives, our country and our world need God to intervene. We are beyond ourselves to accomplish anything of eternal significance. We have put ourselves in an awkward position whereby there is no way out, no cure, no progress. Only God’s intervention can make a difference for us.
