In Time of Fear

In America and around the world circumstances have escalated to a fearful state. It is likely this will bring a personal sensation of fear to anyone who has been observing world happenings. The time is right for people to be confused and anxious without any likelihood of relief.

We may wonder about in our own lives seeking relief, which in many circumstances is no relief at all! On the other hand, there are those who try to ignore the escalating situation in our country and elsewhere. Much discussion has occurred in the media and the Internet. There are those who supposedly have the answers through treaties or compromises. The fact is that on a personal level none of those things make any difference. We need real relief at this time of fear.

In the fifth chapter of Mark Jesus was faced with a terrible situation. It seems the ruler of the synagogue had his daughter facing death. In fact, there were those employed by the ruler that came and said not to trouble Jesus since the daughter had died. To them this awful thing was beyond any reaction capable by Jesus. However, in verse thirty-six Jesus made a response to them and what would be most useful to us today when he said, “Be not afraid, only believe.”

Jesus was the master over death and life and natural events. He had all power at all times over everything. Keep in mind that those things which are of greatest concern to you are also of concern to Jesus. In whatever fearful state you find yourself, allow his words to ring true to you. He knows when we are afraid. He knows when we are confused. Most importantly, he knows when you feel there is nowhere else to turn as in the case of this daughter’s death.

Whatever is happening in your life today, Jesus knows and says to each of us, “Be afraid, only believe!” Allow yourself to trust him. He loves you and does not want you to live in a state of fear. Turn from the circumstances that are weighing heavy on you by turning to Jesus who says not to be afraid.
