It was danger head for the Christ child in King Herod’s mass murder of infants. This made it necessary for the family to take an unplanned trip to Egypt for their safety. But how would the trip be financed? It is difficult enough to anticipate needs without having to cope with the unexpected even two thousand years ago. Matthew 2: 1-18 reminds us that God provides for his own, sometimes in surprising ways.
How marvelous it was after the birth of Christ when God sent strangers (the wisemen) to bring expensive gifts (gold, frankincense, and myrrh) just when they were needed the most. From this we must remember that God’s provisions are especially for each of us, tailored to each of us. Why can we say this? Follow along with me.
God has foreknowledge of our lives. He routinely anticipates our needs, in this case danger. Hopefully, each of us have a personal intention to strive toward service with God as did Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Simeon, and Anna. His perfect plan is before each of us.
God has fellowship for our journeys in life. The trip to Egypt for this young family was God’s idea. We must ask ourselves whose ideas do we act upon. The trip involved, enlisted other persons cooperation as it sometimes does for us as well. Of course, the trip had a far-reaching effect on individuals through prophecy.
God has favors for whatever our needs happen to be. For instance, let us look at several scriptures that address our special needs. 2 Timothy 1: 7 declares God’s assistance for our emotional needs. Matthew 6:33 reminds us that God is there for us in regard to our physical needs. Ephesians 1:3 encourages us to be aware that God is there for us in regard to our spiritual needs. In all cases God is there for us even if sometimes just outside the door waiting for us to open it.
