It goes without speaking that God overlooks our lives. He is an integral part of how we live. He is fully aware of the decisions we make; how we function from day-to-day. There is a Scripture in Job 1:8 where God brags about his servant. He said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil?”
There is no greater compliment than when God says he is proud of us. On the contrary, there are so many occasions in which God finds that we are falling short of his plans. We stumble and fall. We sometimes ignore what the Scripture says about how to live righteously. There are times that we can let the flesh enter into our thinking and lead us astray. Jesus said for a reason that we should walk the narrow way, not the broad way.
Job lived before Moses. There were no Ten Commandments. There were no instructions for how to worship God. Likely, the idea of animal sacrifices came directly from Adam since the story of Job was probably the oldest in our Bible. He even made sacrifices in behalf of his children lease they had sinned. Since Job behaved himself righteously, God knew that he could trust Job to endure whatever came his way.
It is a heavy responsibility for each of us to live in such a way that God would be proud of us. In fact, how many of us when struggling with the stress of life and facing temptation give thought to whether God would be proud of us. He was used by God to defeat Satan who threw the worst at Job. Satan complained that God protected Job and that was the reason that he served our Lord. God knew this was not true. God wanted to prove a point that he had a person walking the face of the earth that he could trust and rely on.
Now comes the embarrassing part. Are any of us living such a life that God would look down and say he is proud of us? We could extend the question further to ask how many of us have given any consideration to God’s opinion of us. So, can God rely on us? Can God trust us? Can God use us? Can God examine our lives so that he is proud of us?
