As Christians, we are asking the world to accept the most profound and even ridiculous sounding statement that a man once murdered came back to life, not as a zombie or monster, but as a living human being. It is that resurrection fact that caused the message of Jesus to spread throughout the world. Without the resurrection the death of Christ on the cross would’ve been incomplete.
For those who want to dispute the resurrection, remind them that when it happened the enemies of Christ also believed. Jesus showed himself to a vast number of people verifying that he was again alive. Through the years many people have tried to diminish the evidence of the resurrection. They said that Jesus was never dead. They said the disciples stole his body to make it look like he was resurrected. Some have even said it was all a hoax. All of these phony explanations are without merit.
The body of Jesus was so mutilated that he was unrecognizable because of the abuses. Then he was placed in the tomb with 100 pounds of spices. The smell of the spices would have been overwhelming for any living person trapped behind the tomb stone. There was no medical assistance available towards the wounded body of Christ. Even if he were alive, he would not have the strength to roll the stone to open it again. Fishermen could not have overwhelmed the well-trained soldiers. Every theory to explain away the resurrection has within it faulty logic.
The most miraculous event that has ever been heard in the history of the world was the resurrection of Jesus Christ! When he appeared before the disciples, he referred to his body as having flesh and bones. This was such a powerful weight on the mind and conscience of the disciples and other followers that they were willing to give up their jobs, their homes, their families, and travel throughout the world spreading the gospel, ultimately their lives.
There are some additional miracles that occurred that morning that few people have taken into consideration. When Jesus was crucified, the soldiers at the foot of the cross gambled for his clothing. When Jesus came out of the tomb, the only explanation for his clothing was that it was heavenly, not the original that he once wore. Then think of the miracle of the healing that his body experienced at resurrection. The deep cuts from the scourging were healed. The bruises and penetrations from the crown of thorns on his head were healed. In fact, his body was resurrected to a new healed body like so will our bodies be. The only healing that his body did not experience was for the nail prints in its wrists and feet plus the spear scar in his side. These were important as witnesses to the disciples that he was the crucified and resurrected Jesus.
Even though Jesus had a tangible body, he was able to be instantly transported to new locations. He was able to pass through doors or walls. He was able to eat food. He was able to be touched and to touch. He experienced emotions. His life became a forever life just as what he offers all believers.
