Corrie ten Boom was held in a Nazi prison camp. Fortunately for all the world, she gained release when World War II was over. She already was a Christian in the camp. Above all she knew what it was to forgive. Here is a quote from her book, Each New Day. Her book was published in 1977. What she had to say is still wise words for us.
She said, “He who cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass, for every man has the need to be forgiven. It is often more difficult to forgive that to ask forgiveness but is vital to forgive. If you do not, the other person remains in bondage, open to attacks from Satan.” Then she quotes Mark 11:25,26 that says, “And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” She concludes by saying this prayer. “Father, remind us to forgive. We are often so busy asking for our own forgiveness that we forget others, or we deliberately withhold our forgiveness.” Whether the offender has asked for forgiveness or not makes no difference. If we do not have a heart to forgive, it will fester throughout our lives diminishing the quality of each day. Think who has offended you. Do not wait for them to ask for forgiveness.
