Approaching Mother’s Day Sunday

A teacher gave a spelling bee in which the children were to imitate the word they spelled such as a dog or cat. When the teacher gave the word love to a little girl, she ran up to the teacher, gave her a big hug, and said, “That is how we say love at my house.”

There is no equal on this earth to the mother’s love. If we fail to love, there are reasons. Perhaps, we do not love God enough. It could be that we love ourselves too much. Maybe we are more interested in our own small world than those around us. None of these things are true of a mother and a devout Christian.

We know we love one another not by emotions. Love is more than an emotion. It is a decision. It is behavior. Instead, we enable each other to grow and blossom as an expression of our love. We do not expect another person to be as we demand. We accept them like they are in love.

As we approach Mother’s Day weekend, let us love like a mother. Let us stop wanting other people to be fixed. The fact is that we have no control over them in the first place. Let us, instead, ask how we can be a better partner, parent, family member, and friend.
