Omar Nelson Bradley (February 12, 1893 – April 8, 1981) was a senior officer of the United States Army during and after World War II, rising to the rank of General of the Army. He was the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and oversaw the U.S. military’s policy-making in the Korean War. Bradley served on active duty continuously from his arrival at West Point on August 1, 1911, until his death. His was the longest active duty career in the history of the United States Armed Forces. Among much of his stellar military career activities, General Bradley was appointed as head of the Veterans Administration refurbishing how it functioned.
