You’re driving down a one-lane road. It is lined by trees and wildflowers from both sides. You are intent to reach your destination. When you started, you convince yourself that this was the best road to take. Perhaps, you’re not questioning yourself as you continue to drive.
Up ahead! Watch out! You are coming to an intersection. You are approaching a place that would lead you in a variety of options. You may not know what the end of each road is. As you approach the intersection you may not even care. You are just intent on your mission.
But what is your mission? What is your plan? How do you want all of this to end?
The questions come to your mind. What is the best choice? How do you know what is the best choice? Are you willing to experience a natural consequence of your choice?
The sign at the intersection gives you two options with explanations.
Take the road to the right and see in the distance a bloody across and an empty tomb. How appealing is this to you? Take the road to the left and see in the distance a carnival having dancing spirits. How attracted are you to this direction?
Every minute of every day every one of us stands at a crossroad. We have choices to make. On the one hand we can choose dedication to the man of the empty tomb. On the other hand, we can choose dedication to the dancing spirits trying to deceive you of their folly.
Whether you are willing to or not; your choice at this intersection will bring upon you the consequences that will affect the rest of your life and beyond.
You hear a voice coming from the right that says, “Take my yoke upon you for is light…. Pick up your cross and follow me.”
You hear a voice coming from the left that says, “Never mind about all that! Come our way. You will enjoy our carnival. Never mind about the eternal consequences of your soul. Just eat drink and be merry.”
You have a natural instinct to turn to the left even though experiences taught you it is not the way to go. If you follow the influence of the Holy Spirit, you will turn to the right.
As you sit and debate which direction to turn, you begin hearing the sweetest singing from the right while you hear groans and cries from the left.
The debate is only from your personal thinking. Your pride and stubbornness keep you from taking a step that you know is the best.
If you listen to the calling that is sounding to your heart from God’s spirit, you will make the right choice. If you listen to the calling from your own flesh, you will make a choice and be left to the consequences.
You have been confronted repeatedly at this intersection. Is it not time to make a decision.
