There came a day in which God decided that he would separate the righteous from the unrighteous. He chose a man name Noah to build an ark into which he and his family would be saved from the worldwide ravaging flood. That Ark is similar to Christ.
We must be careful when considering the first similarity. Noah did not come up with the idea of building an ark. Noah did not create a means for his own salvation. Instead, the building of the ark was a result of faith and obedience which are directly tied to accepting Christ as Savior.
Two passages of Scripture in Genesis 6 stand out for us. “My spirit shall not always strive with man.” God’s desire is to gain a relationship with humankind but there may come a time in which a person no longer has the opportunity to accept Christ. The other verse is “every imagination of the thoughts his heart was only evil continually.” The human race has gained much in science and other disciplines. Yet, those gains have not drawn people closer to God.
God provided the ark because mankind was under the threat of death. Most people fear death. The oddity is that that fear may not draw them to a salvation experience with God.
We must emphasize that God is the one who provided the ark for safety. Just because Noah and his family built the ark has nothing to do with the creation of the ark because the instructions came directly from God. Salvation is for everybody on an equal basis as a result of faith and obedience.
When the flood came, there was no other Ark for safety. People may have reached for whatever floated by to keep them adrift. That’s happening today in our modern world as people reach out for anything and everything other than Christ. The invitation was open for anyone to come into the ark, yet no one chose the only means of safety until it was too late.
The security that Noah and his family experienced was absolute. The floodwaters could not get to them. They were safe in the Ark just like all those who accept Christ have eternal safety that will secure them on this earth and prepare them for what life will be like after the judgment.
Noah and his family did not enter the ark and sit inside twiddling their thumbs until the flood was over. They had work to do inside the ark such as feeding the animals. When a person accepts Christ, that person has great responsibility toward others.
God’s eternal security is still available to anyone who is willing to receive it. A few will respond. Many will reject it. Both experienced the flood one in a safe environment and the other in an environment of death and doom. The opportunity is there for everyone. The opportunity is laid for every person to make a decision. If you lived in the time of Noah, what would’ve been your decision? Would you have gone into the Ark (Christ) or would you have continued to busy yourself with your daily distractions?
