No matter how hard you tried circumstances can enter into your daily living which causes you to become disillusioned. On top of that, perhaps you never achieved the goals that you wanted. When you were very young, you might have thought the career you wanted would be just perfect for you.
On the contrary, perhaps you have been successful in life, but you still feel like you have been left empty. It could be that something from the past has dragged you down. You might be struggling right now to emotionally keep your head above water. Are you going through the daily rituals of life with no joy or peace?
Whether your life did not turn out to what you wanted it to be or whether you did get all you wanted out of life with career and finances, could it be that you reached a place in which you are just disappointed with what life is for you?
Some people have gone to great lengths to deal with their disappointments. Some have considered suicide or murder. Some have committed crimes of robbery or burglary. Some have stepped deep into sin. On a lesser scale, some have cheated to balance the scale for themselves.
You might be in the depths of depression. It is very easy in such a situation to fall into the sinkhole of misery while forcing a smile in public. There are those of us that are convinced everyone else deserves better. As unhappy as this article may seem, there is a way out. There is a means to turn the tables against your own negative emotions.
The first thing to do is to make a very difficult decision that you will not allow yourself to stay in this cesspool. Such a decision cannot be made lightly. It requires intense dedication with determination to make things better regardless of what is currently happening. Whatever is said, whatever seems defeating must not be the center of how you think. The Bible says to be angry and sin not. Anger can be a very powerful positive emotion. Turn your anger against all that has dragged you down. Combine your anger with an intention to turn around, away from what has been in your life, and your emotions.
The next thing to do is to get a better grasp on who God is and what he’s done for us. It is far too easy to take God for granted. You must truly see him as the master of everything. Rehearse those times in your past where you have trusted him. Take yourself to a place in which you are amazed about God. Express appreciation for everything he has provided you. Even if you do not feel like it, offer praise and worship to His Majesty. Remember that God cannot be defined in human terms. He is above any concept we create. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse how amazing God is. At this point, you do not need to ask for anything. Just become enthralled with him. Let him define you instead of you defining him.
Learn to forgive yourself. Oddly enough, you may have the faith that God has forgiven you, but not have enough insight to forgive yourself whatever is gone wrong. Fall in love with yourself in a healthy way. Jesus said that we are to love others as we love ourselves. That means that we cannot relate to the outside world until we have related to our inside world. While avoiding becoming narcissistic, complement yourself to yourself about the masterful things that God has created you for salvation and eternity.
Become content with the way things are in your life even if they are bad. Being content does not mean to be accepting of that part of your life that is unhappy. Being content is to recognize the way things are so that, if necessary, you can make changes. To be content means that you will avoid complaining about yourself or what there is in this life. The apostle Paul said that he has had great misery and discomfort in his life that was contrasting to the successful and satisfying part of life. He encourages you and me to accept the sway back and forth of what happens.
Concentrate on the good parts of you. Concentrate on the wonderfulness of God in you. The Bible says that to have Jesus within is the hope of glory. Read your Bible regularly whether you get anything out of it or not. Pray routinely throughout the day whether you feel like it or not. Notice people around you that need the support of prayer. Step away from the rudiments of life while sharing and supporting those who are in need of the requirements of living out spiritual conquests. Shift who you are. Avoid concentrating on your dissolution while considering that which is satisfying. Walkabout life as you hope to be, not how you assume you are. Learn to be a blessing to others because God is already blessed you in some way or the other. Teach yourself to rejoice because someday you will live in a place that is full of rejoicing.
