Scripture tells us that Jesus came, born as a baby, at God’s timing.(Galatians 4:4) He came into this world for our redemption when God said the time was right. This is an important notation for us to observe. We recognize that Mary was moved upon by the Holy Spirit to create the physical body of Jesus. In doing so, we must also remind ourselves that when this happened it was according to the way God intended it to be.
When Jesus was born it was above man’s desires. In fact, mankind had no concern about when Jesus was ever to be born. The religious leaders liked to speculate about the coming of the Messiah. Yet, they did not take this seriously that God was actually planning to send his son into this world. According to their thinking, if God did send the Messiah, it would be to overthrow the Roman empire to establish Israel as the ruling nation of the world. This was the farthest from God’s plan. Today modern Jews take the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus as according to themselves and the nation of Israel.
When Jesus was born it was above man’s designs. They came to this conclusion above because of how they twisted their understanding they had of Scripture. Their idea was to elevate themselves while defeating their enemies. Never did they take in consideration God’s schedule for Jesus to come as the Savior from their sins who would die on a cross. God’s timing was so far distant from man’s desires that when it unfolded, the only thing they could consider was to reject Jesus. It is interesting to note that the only ones who came to worship the young Jesus were those who were invited either by an angel or by following a star. No one else was there. The world around the manger was busy, but without Jesus!
When Jesus was born it was above man’s despairs. The Jewish population was suffering terribly under the rule of the Roman Empire. So many of them were slaves. All of them had to pay taxes for no reason at all other than to appease their captors. In every respect, history tells us that the people were in great despair without any legitimate spiritual leadership for comfort and guidance. The leadership was obsessed to maintain their own elite positions. They came to this conclusion because of how they twisted the understanding they had of Scripture. Their idea was self-serving (John 11:50). Never did they take in consideration the desire for Jesus to come as a Savior from their sins who would die a cross. God’s timing was so far distant from man’s desires that when it unfolded, the only thing they could consider was to kill Jesus.
There is little difference today between now and when Jesus was born. We have preachers delivering messages without mentioning sins and the shed blood of Christ. We have churches that seek to gain funds from even the desperate so they may build bigger and fancier organizations. Where is it that we have the message of the gospel that Jesus was born from above to be our Savior because of our sin? All in all, man’s desires, man’s designs, man’s despairs have no room for him just as when there was no room in the inn when he was born.
It is a wise believer who will look beyond their own condition to look for God’s plans and his timing. Keep in mind that when Jesus appears in the sky to gather up those who have trusted in him as Savior, it will come exactly at a time that the Heavenly Father intends. The Bible tells us so many people will be caught off guard. The Bible also says that those who have experienced Christ in the born-again manner will in an instant be caught up to him. Take heart for your situation that God’s timing will unveil itself soon and the Christmas child will return as the conquering King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
