Power from On High – Zechariah 4:6

We are all familiar with the term “energy crisis.” This is the age of power. We need power for light, to warm us, and to transport us. It is God’s will that we live in the eye of the storm of spiritual power. The Holy Spirit is the source of that power when he filled the church at the sound of a mighty rushing wind. We must explore details of the same power for ourselves.

It is foolish for us to think as Christians that we do not need the Holy Spirit active in our lives. In the same way that a breeze operates the sail on a ship, it is what the sailor awaits so that his navigation will be effective. We cannot be effective without the guidance, comfort, and support of the Holy Spirit. (2 Samuel 5:24)

God knew that we would need his input into our daily lives. Jesus knew that we needed divine presence operating in our lives. He explained that when he would be ascended to heaven, he would send the Holy Spirit for us. He promised the Holy Spirit who could be everywhere at the same time on earth.  The day of Pentecost occurred not just for those present that knew Jesus personally. It was a monumental event in which the Holy Spirit empowered the church so that whoever accepts Christ as Savior comes into that same church with that same power (Luke 24:49)

When God forwarded his Holy Spirit to the church, he did not parse it out. He gave his Holy Spirit so that he would be sufficient for all our needs to represent the church and to represent him here on earth.(2 Peter 1:21) It is from the Holy Spirit that we have a daily renewal and strength as we allow him to operate in our lives. We have no other need than what the Holy Spirit provides us. (2 Timothy 1:7)

When we speak of the Holy Spirit being a gift from God, we cannot beg barter or steal from God to receive him. The Holy Spirit is a gift, a special personal gift from God to each of us. The Scripture records one man’s effort to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit and he failed miserably. Just like receiving any other gift, the only thing we could do is to receive him. This not only speaks of when we accept Christ as Savior and come into the spirit filled church, but it also speaks of a daily filling of the Holy Spirit in our personal lives.(Acts 8:18)

The benefit of the Holy Spirit may be lost to us. ( 1 Thessalonians  5:19) We must be sensitive to the special gift from God. We must have our minds set being available to his influence for the decisions we make and the effect we have on other people. Even though we cannot lose our salvation, we can fall to the efforts of Satan who wants us to sleep after performing a sin so that it is not dealt with by requesting forgiveness from God. It is so unfortunately possible that a Christian who keeps his eyes on circumstances and people who he can become burned out, unhappy, dissatisfied, and not working for God. Ours is a grand opportunity to enjoy a direct contact from the Almighty God. It is true by the contact with the Holy Spirit can realize God’s power from on high.
