Change Anyone? – Luke 1, 2

No other couple in history or in the future has had to cope with change in their lives more than Mary and Joseph. Everything about their plans had to change. Where they lived changed more than one time. Joseph had to resurrect a means to earn a living for his family several times. Their relationship was dynamically altered. Every plan they had was replaced. Even their reputation was affected. They did all this in response to God’s call. Following their example, we can learn for ourselves how to cope with change.

  1. Cultivate quality relationships with other people in and out of your family
  2. As you do so,  share yourself with others who have similar interests and beliefs.
  3. Keep an open mind about the purpose, the reason that change is occurring.
  4. See your change as an opportunity for growth and expansion.
  5. Avoid making changes for the sake of making a change.
  6. Verify the beliefs that you truly hold dear to your life.
  7. Sit quietly for a few moments each day to meditate on God and his Word.
  8. Be physically strong and capable to encounter the requirements of change.
  9. Directly confront questions about your future as they occur.
  10. Have a significant relationship with the Holy Spirit as He leads you.

Mary and Joseph lived lives that made them capable to respond to God’s use. They accepted where he led them. When questions arose, each of them immediately resolved issues. They separately and together maintained a powerful prayer life that brought encouragement and peace for where God would lead them in any moment, for any reason. They put fear aside in favor of their mission to serve God. There never will be another Mary and Joseph, but we can copy their example when the tsunamis occur in our own minds.
