Foolish Experts – 1 Corinthians 2:14; 3: 19

Recently I was searching  channels on the television for something to watch. I came across a show narrated by so-called experts who were debating the location of the ark of the covenant. They shared all kinds of theories. I chuckled to myself that if they simply read the Bible, they would easily know the location of the ark.

But first, what is the ark? It was part of the instructions to the Israelites for their journey in the wilderness during which time they would need the place for worship. In that place was a box overlaid with gold inside and out. The edges of the top was a crown around about. On top were two cherub with their wings pointing toward each other. Inside the ark was a pot of manna reminiscent of how God fed the Hebrews in the wilderness. There was Aaron’s rod that budded. Finally, there were the tablets dictated by God to Moses of the 10 Commandments. (Exodus 25)

Such adventurers wondering about the location of the ark is reminiscent of the movie Indiana Jones.  The ark is more than an artifact. It is more than a symbol of worship conducted by the Hebrews. It represented the place where the priest would burn incense every morning in front of the veil beyond which was the Holy of  Holies.  If  these experts would have simply read the Bible, they could’ve seen that the ark had been taken to heaven and remains there in the temple.(Revelation 11: 19)

I offer this comment today because we’re not really just talking about the ark. The unredeemed so-called intellectual elite have their own take on the Bible. There are many people who criticize the Bible but yet confess they’ve never read it. There are those people who select certain verses from the Bible and use them as examples of contradictions when they are not. There are other people who try to make the Bible say what it was never intended. There are also those who think of the Bible as a fantasy because they’ve never read how the Bible came to be or its value to society. If you come in contact with someone like this, don’t argue with them. They are smart enough to blaze their own trail to hell. They have convinced themselves they are right even though we know God’s Word is true.
