A DAD IS WHAT HE NEEDS

a boy needs more than anything

   a dad to guide his hand

and help with problems, now and then

   in ways he’ll understand.

he needs him for companionship

   and counsel he can give

and too, for teaching him the way

   a growing boy should live

it’s necessary for a boy

   to have a dad who heeds

the calls from such assistance as

   a youngster often needs

a  lad can’t  do without a dad

   and keep on having fun

or win for self the battles that

   some other lads have won

he never has a chance to brag

   about things his dad can do

nor has an ear that he can tell

   his private troubles to

indeed, a lad must have a dad

   to guide him every day

and keep him from temptations which

   so often comes his way
