It is reasonable to believe that God who created everything has communicated to mankind. He did it in an intelligent and organized manner. The Almighty God wanted to communicate to those made after his own image. In the Old Testament he spoke through inspired prophets. The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. His highest effort to communicate was through Christ, his only begotten son. Jesus is the incarnation of God’s spoken word. His spoken word was God breathed or inspired. Let us examine details of what that MEANS.
The Bible doctrines are holy, precepts are binding, its histories and geography are true, and its decisions are without change. We are to read it since it contains light to direct us, food to support us, and comfort to cheer us. It is the travelers map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s character. It records paradise restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand objective, are good in its design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. We would be wise to read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of spiritual and mental health, a paradise of glory and a river of pleasure. It is given to us in life it will be opened on the judgment day. Every part of it is permanent. It reminds us of our highest responsibility and the reward for our greatest labor.
