The Apostle Paul spoke of the church as a body with many members. He encouraged each member to work with others so that the ministry of Christ could be performed for the winning of more people to Christ. There is only one human leader in the church among the people. That person is the pastor. We owe our loyalty and devotion to that man for the proper and positive functioning of the church.
In today’s modern church there are too many rebels and troublemakers that are not willing to follow the leader. That man experienced a special call from God to step forward as His representative to the people. The pastor makes many sacrifices for the people. It is our duty to follow his leadership. Anyone who is not willing to accept that obligation should pray for God’s leadership to seek out another church where to worship. Consider with me what is necessary for the church as a team to work together under the leadership of the pastor.
Since the Bible describes the church as a body, so must we combine our efforts as a team that is in real need of leadership. The pastor must have the opportunity to expand his commitment to Christ. Encourage him to be involved in the daily lives of members. Give him the opportunity for private times where he can discover God’s leadership in his own life so that he can be a healthy influence for the Lord. He must have positive support from the congregation.
The pastor must allow himself to be impressed by God so that he could examine his relationship to the church, always improving and always on guard against the enemy. The pastor must be given every opportunity to expand his knowledge and spiritual growth so that he has an abundance of spiritual food to feed the flock. That means he also must have a suitable income provided by the church that is equal to the upper middle income of most congregants.
As a result, members of the church as a whole must adopt a strong sense of commitment and responsibility for the pastor and the ministry of the church. Therefore, a volunteer staff must be on guard for every opportunity to examine and critique the communal standing of the church and how it affects neighbors. If the experienced members of the congregation have a long-standing relationship with the Holy Spirit, they will rejoice with the pastor in whatever ways God lays on their hearts in behalf of every person.
Anyone who boasts of support for the church and the pastor will demonstrate it by first being present in the services available. It is likely that a part-time attendee to church activities will also be making an effort to be a part-time Christian. The lackluster member will not be allowed by the committed congregants to distract from the mission of the church. The teamwork of the biblical church will be demonstrated by its devotion and determination. Membership for the devout volunteers of the church will be taken seriously.
