Every now and then it is a good thing to reassess where we stand as believers in the world. For instance, when was the last time you witnessed to someone about your salvation? Our individual witness is highly important to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
To reevaluate ourselves it might be a good idea to refer to some specific Bible verses:
As Paul wrote to the young pastor Timothy he said, “make full proof of thy ministry.” We all have a ministry of some sort. We must honor it and exercise it. God does expect us to exercise our spiritual prowess every day and everywhere.
In the verse 1 Peter 2:5 we are reminded the following – “ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, and holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. “Verse nine says, “you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” What a fantastic reminder and complement is given to us by God that we should adapt as part of our own self-image! God sees us in a very special way and so should we as his ambassadors to the world.
There are times we might be tempted to become discouraged or disheartened. Philippians 4:8 says to counteract those moods and enrich our spiritual lives we should, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” When you are tempted to dwell on the negative, redirect your thoughts as this verse says. Should your mind begin to wonder again, redirect them again and again.
Mark chapter 5 records a very important healing of a man that was demon possessed. The man wanted to go with Jesus afterwards, but Jesus told him to go back home and share the good news. He was obedient and published the work of Jesus all through the region called the Decopolis. You would think it disheartening that Jesus refused the man’s devotion to follow him. But Jesus knew what he was doing. Instead of being one of the followers, he became a great leader and an evangelist so that the next time Jesus came to the area a multitude of people came to him as a result of this one man’s testimony.
It is important how we see ourselves. It is important to understand how God sees us. It is important to know how to think and feel biblically. It is important to express our gratitude to Christ through our own personal evangelism in our own personal world.
