There are times we all need a friend. There are circumstances when we need a really good friend. The best of these friends is a true prayer warrior.
A warrior is a person who understands what it is to fight. A person who prays is one who understands the intricate matters of prayer and has a positive relationship with God.
A prayer warrior is fully aware of the spiritual arena where all believers live. The Apostle Paul wrote to his young protégé, Timothy, that he should “… endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this world; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (2 Timothy 2: 3,4).
When we are facing a bully, when we have a deep need, when we find ourselves in a desperate situation, we would not want a whim to stand up with us. This would be on the playground. This would be in the business world. This would be for health reasons. This would be within the privacy of the home. This would be while fighting a spiritual battle that could be inside of us or oppressing from the outside of our lives.
Avoid asking for someone to intercede for you who is shallow and only an acquaintance with God. Instead, seek a prayer warrior that will not let you down. Have those close to you in your spiritual world that are dependable.
Reach out to someone that is tall enough to pound on the door of heaven from their knees. This person will be persistent and insistent. I recall when I pastored my first church in Iowa. There was a couple in my church the likes of which I had never met before. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes found that I was ill and stayed up all night interceding for my healing. I will never forget them. After sixty years, I can still see their faces. They knew what it was to have concern for another person and showed that by sacrificing their sleep just for me. These are the kind of people you want in your corner.
Now the uncomfortable question turns itself back to us! Can you legitimately be called a prayer warrior? How much awareness do you have that when you pray you are resisting the Enemy and asking God for a change? To be a prayer warrior we must first be concerned. Then we must be reliable to stand with that other person during their struggles.
If you want people to pray for you, be in a position that you can spiritually return the favor. Think how great your personal community would be if it was populated by many prayer warriors. Be selective for those that you asked to pray for you. Be aware of what it takes to be a prayer warrior. Decide to prepare yourself for the warfare at hand by not being so connected to the world that you are distracted from your duties as a good soldier.
