What would it take for you to be able to call yourself a Christian?

If you honestly looked at the historical records of Jesus, you would see that his life, death, and resurrection are verified in biblical plus secular documents. Jesus presented himself as the Son of God. His miracles of healing and bringing people back from the dead are documented in secular history.

Millions of people have been dynamically affected by the influence of Jesus in their lives. He answers their prayers. He offers encouragement and comfort.

When King Agrippa was confronted by the apostle Paul, the king said, “Almost now persuaded me to be a Christian.” Paul replied, “I wish that thou was almost but altogether willing to become a Christian.” It is sad to say that the likelihood of King Agrippa not being in heaven was his own fault.

Especially here in America we are surrounded by people who believe in Christ as their Savior. They believe that the Bible is the holy Word of God. They confess their sins to him and asked for forgiveness.

What does it mean to ask for forgiveness (especially if you feel like you are a good person and have done nothing wrong). The Bible reminds us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. What does that mean? God is absolutely perfect and holy. There is no fault that can be found in him. Now if we compare ourselves to God, we are not perfect and we are not totally holy. Therefore, there is a major difference between us and God. This is the reason we cannot have a direct fellowship with him. Jesus came to die on the cross to heal that difference so that we could have fellowship with God.

But first we must believe in our heart and confess with our lips that Jesus is the Savior and Lord and that he died on the cross and was resurrected for us. When we ask for forgiveness, we are asking for our lives to be corrected spiritually and mentally. The idea of forgiveness does not mean that anyone who requested is a serial killer. It really means that we have lived our lives the best way we know how to be a good person. Whatever goodness we feel like we can manufacture is not good enough on its own merit to reunite relationship with God. Being a good person and living a good life is insufficient. If that were the case, Jesus would have died in vain.

Sometimes people allowed pride or embarrassment to prevent themselves from stepping forward and asking Jesus to be their Savior. As we learn what it is that Christianity is all about, we have two areas to be considered. We worship God because he deserves it, because he loves us. Secondly, being in a worship service is a good thing, but is ineffective if we do not allow him to be part of our lives. In the same way we have children that is a part of our lives, so we become part of God’s family with him in our lives.

You may be a good person, yet God can make you a righteous person: one that sets a godly example before friends and family. God gives us his righteousness through Christ and takes this above the level of our own goodness. If you have not asked Jesus to be a central part of your life so that you become more than a good person, ask him to be in your life and to heal your spiritual condition. Through Christ you become a righteous person. An Old Testament passage says that our righteousness is as filthy rags. A New Testament passage says that the wages of sin is death. Avoid being fooled that you can wait until someday. Surely, you have known of people whose someday never came because of an accident or illness. The Bible also adds, today’s the day of salvation. Please asked Jesus to come in your heart and make you a Christian!
