The word Bible comes from a Greek word meaning book. It is actually a collection of sixty-six letters or books each bearing the name of the writer, reader, or subject matter. It is holy because its author is holy. It has changed men and nations. Literature, music, and art are most profoundly influence by the Bible. It is different from all other books and that to each man at any moment this Word of God response to trouble, the need for comfort, the squelching of fear, or understanding revealed truths. What declarations can we make about this most wonderful book of all books?
It is inspired. According to 2 Peter 1:21, it is a result of God moving on men. Not all portions are equally important because the text may be quoting evil people or even Satan. Mankind still had to get the facts from God. There were thirty-six writers, places, with individual efforts, over a period of sixteen hundred years. It is phenomenal that all of the writers over that many years still contributed the same theme for all ages. The Bible is the result of God’s own knowledge. Men do not always understand their own writings let alone the divine writing. The truth that it beholds offers that which only is the way to see some facts. ( Corinthians 2:14) It is a book of prophecy and therefore the only way to see the future. It is a book about the Son of God and the only way to see his face in eternity.
We can say that the Bible is a religious book simply because it’s not intended to be a science book and speaks to the heart of man’s spiritual needs. It is the final authority. The authority does not come from the church, decrees of man, everyone’s conscience, or reason. On one of Oprah Winfrey’s shows she made the statement that it does not make sense that Jesus is the only way to go to heaven. That’s because she’s was using her own ideology. The Bible provides for us a sufficient principle on which to live. Through it we can realize great accomplishments to meet even the obvious in life. It is the last treasure delivered into the hands of believers. Even so it is not fully explored because the depth of its message is so profound.
The Bible is alive! (Hebrews 4:12) It demonstrates its life as a seed pushing away obstacles that stand in the way of mankind. It is a light more so than the sun itself while it reveals and guides believers. The Bible has called itself a fire that cleanses while at the same time destroying which should not be. It is a hammer that the Holy Spirit uses to break hearts and make people contrite. It is a sword like an instrument or a weapon. All of these statements are realized by those who accept what Jesus has given us. He has been called the Logos which means word. As the Son of God, as God’s word, Jesus created all that there is. When Jesus was born, he as the Logos entered into human flesh so that his flesh might be sacrificed as the perfect, last, and only sacrifice acceptable by the Heavenly Father.
The more we appreciate the Bible and the more we honor it, the more it has an effect on our minds and hearts. Satan does not want us to occupy our day with the reading of God’s Word because the Bible will have a deadline to make an effect on us. When we open God’s Bible, we opened a whole new spiritual world for ourselves. It is for us to take the initiative to incorporate what the Bible says into our personal lives. Many unbelievers have challenged the validity of the Bible saying that he has contradictions. This is not so because one passage is an exposition of another passage. Some have not even read or study the Bible, yet they find it convenient to criticize it. It is a means by which passages put together give us a broader understanding of God’s intentions. How remarkable it is that God gave us this book. The responsibility is ours for what we do about it and with it.
