Should America Support Israel? – Genesis 26: 4

Historically speaking, it is common knowledge that when Titus destroyed the temple and the city of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., the Jews scattered throughout the known world. Since then, there have been various theories as to the nature of true Jews. One of those theories supports the idea that 10 tribes of Israel went to Europe mingled with the Gentiles and may even been eventually part of those who inhabit the new Western world. There are those who identify themselves as actual Jews. However, much speculation has been floated over the years wondering what a genuine true Jew really is. That question, also among some people, raises the speculation if actual Jews are inhabiting Israel. From that, another question arises asking why America should support Israel. For those who want to raise the question, we can biblically and historically address that issue.

The verse that we have cited above plainly declares that   God expected the Jews to be his means of blessing both to Jew and Gentile. If America has received that blessing from Genesis, that is our first response to this question. Deuteronomy 14:2 declares that God chose Israel above all the other nations of the world. Psalm 33: 12 confirms a blessing on the nation that worships God. It also says Jews are people that God has chosen for his own inheritance. Since these things are so, it behooves us to cooperate with God’s blessings and declarations to uphold Israel. Isaiah 65: 19 reminds us that God rejoices in Jerusalem and has joy in his people. If God does this, so should we.

Moab sent messengers to the prophet Balaam asking him to curse the Jews, instead God told Balaam  not to curse them because he has blessed them. (Numbers 22:12) God advised a prophet that he had appointed a place for Israel where they should dwell permanently which meant that other nations could not afflict them further. (2 Samuel 7: 10)   God told in Zechariah that even though other nations have cursed Jews, he would bless them. (8:13)

Let’s turn to the historical factors. America was founded by people that honor both the Old and the New Testament this is not to say that America is a Christian nation. It is to say that it was founded on biblical principles which are shared with Jews beginning with the 10 Commandments. Paul reminds us that those who accept Christ as Savior is a spiritual Jew.  He goes further in Romans 11 explaining that the Jew was an original branch of an olive tree whereas the Gentile is a grafted branch of the tree meaning that both belong to the tree to produce fruit. The book of Acts is the history of the early church in which the early church leaders (Jews) recognize Gentiles as part of the family of God.(Acts 4, 10, 13) a very old man named Simeon prophesied that Jesus would bring light to the Gentiles and glory to Israel. (Luke 2:32)

There are prophecies, as a homeland of Jesus, when he will literally return to earth setting up his kingdom. God promised David that his throne would be occupied by a descendent forever namely Jesus. During the tribulation, Jews will recognize Jesus as their Messiah but suffer intensely for it. Even the final battle between good and evil will take place on the land of Israel the location of which we call the battle of Armageddon.

The area now occupied by Jews (or those who call themselves Jews) has always been a keen interest to God. It is correct to say that there are no specific Bible verses that declare America should side with Israel even though it is a similar democracy as our own. However, we have circumstantial evidence in Scripture and history that demands we support it against any and all foes. We have a kinship to that land. Those who occupy the land during the time of fulfilled prophecy will be Jews even though the people there currently may or may not be pure bred Jews. Of course, our Lord and Savior was himself a Jew which means we have a duty to honor where he once walked. Israel is a small nation surrounded by Muslim nations some of which harbor terrorists. It is in America’s best interest to support Israel because of where they are located. We have common interest with the Israelites such as freedom of religion. We have a duty to support the land because the territory associated with Jesus as sacred sites should be protected. Christians and Jews are half-brothers. It is our duty to witness the saving power of Jesus to them. We must always keep an open channel to those living in Israel.
