To serve Christ is to bear the responsibility for the impression that we give to others. How we relate to other people is a presentation of what a holy life is. Our attitude is a reflection for how the Holy Spirit has been operative within us. If the world is to believe that the grace of God truly does make a difference within us, they must see it in our walk. Every business transaction and every social interaction with others must be self-monitored. Here are checkpoints whereby we can judge ourselves before the world judges us.
- Is your presentation questionable in your own mind before you live it out?
- Could this become an issue to destroy any identity you claim to have with Christ?
- Does your life have any possibility of weakening a godly influence on others?
- Is there a possibility what you are considering have potential for harm to your body?
- Could your behavior before others conflict with your duty as a Christian?
- Does your practice cultivate an unbiblical fleshly appetite?
- Might the matter bring you under a weakening influence toward others?
- Could this bring you into an unequal association that would not be pleasing to God?
- Is it possible that you would be placed at a disadvantage in serving the Lord?
- Is this behavior contrary to what an unbeliever thinks should be by a Christian?
- Could you find yourself in a position in which you would have to make excuses for it?
- Would you do this in the physical presence of Jesus?
- Would find the need to later to ask God’s forgiveness for it?
It is wise to avoid being impulsive, especially if something you plan might be something that you would later regret. If you took a vote among fellow Christians, would they support your intentions? Every step you take must be something that elevates your character and position before God. Keep in mind that how you live today will have an effect on any rewards you enjoy in eternity.
