It seems a new cult is popping up for the attention of the vulnerable or the uneducated in Scripture. It would not be surprising if every reader of this blog knows somebody that transitioned to a false religion. We are not saying Christianity is correct because we label it so. Christianity is the only faith group initiated by God himself for the redemption of men’s souls. Not everyone has the privilege of an in-depth study of the Bible. Therefore, here are some suggestions to know how to spot and evaluate a religious movement new on the scene of America.
Beware of any movement that seems to call more attention to itself than to Christ.
Beware of those who perpetuate their own name such as, “Smith Revival Crusade, or John Smith’s Temple, or Louise Kennedy healing ministry.”
Beware of Faith ministries which are constantly asking for money with a lack of concern for those who need deliverance from illness or personal problems.
Beware of those who condemn all denominations and claims theirs is the only right one. The fact that Jesus said he is the only way to the Father does not mean that Jesus was condemning anyone who is on a spiritual journey.
Beware of religious Crusaders, ministers and missionaries who frequently say, “God told me to do this or build a college, a temple, write a special book or some other grand effort supposedly for this generation alone. Steer away from those who say God told me to tell you something. This includes psychological speeches instead of sermons.
Beware of religious leaders who travel constantly in royal style, live in plush accommodation, and dress extravagantly.
Beware of leaders at organizations who do not furnish adequate financial statements but instead keep them secret.
Beware of a one-man operation in which that single person who is in charge of everything and everyone else reports to him.
Beware of those that try to isolate you from family and friends while brainwashing you.
Most importantly, beware of those who teach doctrines that veer away from the historical truth of the church.
