What if there were no stars above. What if all we saw when we looked up was endless, dark black. There are those people that say because there are so many stars and planets there has to be some version of human life elsewhere. They say to us that disagree we are being egotistical that only on earth is there human life. I say the opposite that it is egotistical of someone to declare human life elsewhere must exist. I say this because those people have no evidence or proof of such a claim other than their own conclusions. That makes their declarations self-centered.
So then, why are there so many stars and planets up there? Our text specifically answers that question. Those far away orbs declare the glory of our God! It is like a neon sign flashing that says, “You can’t do this. I am the most powerful everywhere present God. See the result of my glory.” Man has reached the moon and wants to land on Mars, but for what reason? Mankind wants to declare his own glory. He wants to brag about himself just like those who tried to build a tower to heaven way back in Genesis.
What you see twinkling is a sun. What you see that has a steady light is a planet. God made these for his glory and for our entertainment. There are children and adults who have said twinkle, twinkle little star…while glancing into the far off and distant void of space. There is no need that other beings are living on another planet. All those masses of dust and gases are God’s handiwork just because he wanted to do it.
Stare onto what is so far away that it would take a million, million years for light to travel to your sight. There is but one other possibility that on some location above and beyond us is what we call heaven. It is the place where Enoch and Elijah went without dying. It is the place of God’s Throne. It is where your loved ones have gone after exiting their mortal bodies. It is the place where Jesus in now interceding for each of us to the Father. It is where the crown of all glory will someday leave and come to earth at the end of times. (Revelation 21: 2,3)
Until that day let us give glory to God that he deserves. Look to the night skies and be amazed at what he has done and give him thanks. Praise God for each and every star and planet placed there to light up the night. Let us recognize his glory who made them just because he could!
