To make the transition from old to new usually is not comfortable. Change rarely is. Let’s be honest and recognizable that we know, at least for some of us, changing to the unknown may be very difficult and even scary. This is why we must recognize that the body of Christ is to be the very best because Jesus is our head and each of the us are members of his body. That greatness is still within each of us to face the dark side of various types of separation, while we are learning about life, experience the relocation in our living statu, and possible financial loss.
Whenever mountaintop experience, we have had did not make us. We made the mountain top by persevering with the Holy Spirit. We are not the quality of people we are because we have belonged to the best church or the best community or even the best family. All of that came to be the best because of who each of us are. That is something they cannot take away from us. What we have been, we still are! What we have attained, we can again. It may be alone or with others that it can be.
There are Bible verses that say, “There is a time to break down and a time to build up; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to moan and a time to dance; a time to get and a time to lose; a time of war and a time of peace.” As the time approaches for Jesus to return we can also say that our time is come. Just as surely as if we would’ve been called up to war and suffer many casualties, our time has come.
In the same way the Darkside seems to have arrived, so will the light. We may be angry, unprepared, resistant, but we cannot have sun without rain or mountains without valleys. Life is like a two-sided coin. If we have heads there must also be a tail to a coin. However, let us not assume faithfulness to duty and being a good soldier of Christ requires us to discount our pain. Jesus said because he had pain so shall we. Therefore, it is an honor as we strive to be the best to know the struggle of pain to get there.
This is where our relationship with each other and with God comes. This is where all those Sunday School lessons and Bible stories start to make meaning in our lives. This is where religious theory is absorbed into the reality of daily life. This is where we can understand what God meant when our Lord said he would never leave us nor forsake us.
I’m reminded of the family in the Bible who had the need to go separate ways. They would never see each other again. The daughter would not see her father and grandfather would not see the grandchildren. So, as we, like that family, part to go our way after each Sunday service I asked you to realize your life as never before. And I offer to you that family’s same blessing on each other, “ The Lord watched between me and thee while we are absent one from the other.” We leave from worship to go into the mission field striving to be the best we can as the ambassadors for Christ.
