The human animal – Genesis 1: 24,  25

The first two chapters of the Bible are full of details. It plainly says that God is the Great  Creator of everything that is. The steps of creation are divided into six days. A conservative opinion demands that these were actual 24 hour days. A more generous opinion is that these were periods of time which could last thousands or millions of years. Then there is the liberal opinion which says everything came as a result of evolution from a single cell to the complex human body. For this reason, a human is called an animal. For anyone that is willing to accept the Bible as the final word, there are some distinctions that we can make.

Darwin made some assumptions that have been drastic as part of our teaching in schools. He noticed that the basic creature has a  similar internal structure as the more complex creature. Just because a creature has an internal skeleton of the spine and ribs makes no difference to his claims. When a carpenter is making a product, he uses a pattern. He likely would use that same pattern over and over for other products. Why should the carpenter, or God, develop a new pattern if the original work is fine? Even though the lower creatures have similar structures as higher creatures, there is no validity that one came from the other. No creature was determined to have a soul. (2:7)  All other creatures including man have a living spirit that energizes the body. The soul of man became his personality and individual character.

Naturally, the higher order of creatures such as chimpanzees and gorillas have the capacity on some level to think and process information. There was a gorilla who was taught sign language and was able to voluntarily select signs to regulate information to a human. All of us will agree that animals have some capacity to think and process information. Just because a gorilla could sign did not mean the human evolved from the ape. It just meant the ape was very smart. When we return to our text, we must recognize that God created each living creature after their own kind, not as a result of the previous kind. This means that the species was the particular creature that always has been in this state and did not emerge from a common ancestor gradually over a lengthy period of time. These creatures were created separately to perform their own display of being unique. Evolution is a philosophy of life and therefore can be classified as a religion without the need for God.

Birds are a primary example of God’s creation. Suppose you could find a bird in the northern hemisphere and a similar bird in the southern hemisphere. They both would have the same song because of the type of bird that they are. Why is that? We don’t have to go to that extreme to prove the point. If there was a bird in Ohio and a similar bird that was hatched  in Arizona, they both would have the same song. This is because of what our text tells us. Each species has its own uniqueness or kind. They do what they were created to do.

Were we to accept the therapy that one species came from a previous species, what the Bible calls sin is nothing more than the nature of the human animal. Yet the characteristics of a human are very different from all other creatures. They can lie. They can betray. They can deceive. They can even kill their own kind. If a human is merely acting like a human species, there really is no such thing as sin. Therefore, there is no  need for a Savior. Forgiveness has no place in the practice of human relationships. The total result is that there is no creator and there is no God. There is no accountability. There is no justification or reconciliation. Man is simply acting like man. No one has a reason to be offended by anything done by another person. The righteous structure of society is only a theory.

There is no radical approach to this thinking. It is simply common sense. It is the meaning that an action creates a response. When Mankind is permitted to function this way, no one has any reason to expect hope for the future or protection in the present. It is a matter that the victim must expect and accept what happens without regard to the value of life. No human would have any moral value than that of a worm. No purpose to be fulfilled could be validated by even the positive actions of the human animal. These two paragraphs delineate the logical consequence of their being a lineal development of one species to the next.

There are Christians that accept evolution as an explanation for how life came to be. When they do so, they are betraying and belittling such things as justice, value, and the right to dream for a better future. Only God created what we call the world. Only God can meet our innate desires for righteousness and some eternal destiny. God gave us a soul from his very breath. That made us akin to his image.
