A contrast is apparent within fractured families that put on a show
Of goodness when, in fact, is not true; ignoring what the Bible says is due!
If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two,
If he came unexpectantly, I wonder what you would do.
Oh, you would give him your nicest room suitable for an honored guest,
And all the food you would serve to him would be genuinely the very best.
And you would keep assuring him you were glad to have him there,
That serving him in your home is joy beyond compare.
When you saw him coming, would you meet him at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly visitor?
Or would you test your image in the bathroom mirror,
Changing into suitable clothes before you let him in the door?
Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they had been?
Would you turn off the radio hoping he had not heard songs of sin
And wish you had not uttered that last, loud, hasty intolerant word?
Would you hide your worldly book to put out Sunday School lessons instead?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?
Could you truthfully display the love and forgiveness from an innocent heart
That he expects from all who claim from sin who really did depart?
And if in person the Savior spent a day or two or try to deceive him at the start?
Would you go right on doing the things you always do?
Would you insist those in your home that declare themselves Christlike not
Show their usual backslidden state consistent with a lower spiritual height?
Would you keep right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?
Would your harshness appear not realizing it causes
Less rewards than what you had in eternity’s sight?
Would you be glad to have him meet your very closest friends.
Would you hope they stay away until his visit finally ends?
Would you be glad to have him stay forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great relief when he at last is gone?
It might be interesting to know the things that you would do
If Jesus Christ in Person came to spend some time with you?
